A group of ladies who enjoy arranging flowers decorate the church at Festivals – Easter, harvest and Christmas – also other special occasions and specific requests.
We bring foliage and flowers from our own gardens and the church pays for flowers from the florist.
It gives us great pleasure seeing our church colourful and fragrant.

Pickering Parish Church Bookstall
We are celebrating our 40th anniversary this year. Started in 1969 on a small table in the South Aisle of the church, it now occupies a prominent position illuminated in the cleared area of the North Aisle facing the entrance door.
It is the only religious book seller for miles around and caters for the many visitors to the church as well as the local congregations. With cards, childrens books, books on church architecture, and books of wide christian interest, there is also a range of postcards of the famous medeival wall paintings the church is widely noted for, and a church guide book to illustrate the many interesting feaatures of this church.
Come and browse and see for yourself.
Worship is at the heart of our parish life and the altar is at the heart of our worship. The Sanctuary Guild is responsible for the care of the altar, its furnishings and the sanctuary.
Members of the Sanctuary Guild work in teams to ensure that the vessels for communion and the linen for the altars is maintained in pristine condition for the services. The brass and silver are polished while flowers are arranged in order to help maintain the beauty of the Sanctuary and the Memorial Chapel.
The Sanctuary Guild comprises six teams which are on a rotating schedule with the duty occurring about four times a year. We would be very happy to welcome anyone who feels they could help in this way. For further details, please contact Miss Valerie Batchelor, 01751 475758.
Why Servers?
Servers have a very important role in the 10am Eucharist. They prepare for the service, assist the Celebrant and clear away.
The Serving Team each Sunday has a
Crucifer – MC
2 Acolytes
Thurifer (at Advent, Christmas, Epiphany, Easter, and other special occasions when incense is used).
Can I become a Server?
There is no age barrier; it just requires a commitment on average once a month and training will be given. So if you want more information about joining the team, please contact Brian Lane – Head Server, 01751 472571 for more details.
The Thursday Group provides an opportunity for the ladies of the church to meet informally in a setting where we can enjoy each other’s company and get to know each other better.
We have a programme of visiting speakers and shared activities, and also join with the other church groups to celebrate the festivals of the Christian year.
We are neither a club nor a clique; we welcome new faces either as regular or occasional members of the group, and open our doors to all who wish to hear a particular speaker or share their own experiences.
All meetings at the Parish Hall, 7.30pm, second Thursday of the month. Leader: Christina Hampshire. 01751 477719
This is the newly-formed Young Adults’Club. To date we have met in the Bay Horse pub and enjoyed buffets, a discussion and a quiz. The ‘club’ is open to anyone who considers themselves to be a young adult(18 to 40+) and bridges the gap between YOOF and the groups consisting of the more mature members of our congregation! We meet monthly on the 3rd Tuesday —so far we have an attendance of some 15 people.
The group name is quite appropriate as we cwertainly do yak and have fun. The immediate future programme is set out below but for more details please ring Steve in 475360 OR email him at yak@pickeringchurch.com.
