Bible Reading – Hazel – Luke 12 15-21
This reading is taken from the gospel of Luke, Chapter 12 verses 15 to 21
Then Jesus said to them, “Be careful and guard against all kinds of greed. Life is not measured by how much one owns”.
Then Jesus told this story: “There was a rich man who had some land, which grew a good crop. He thought to himself, what will I do? I have no place to keep all my crops”
Then he said, “This is what I will do: I will tear down my barns and build bigger ones, and there I will store all my grain and other goods. Then I can say to myself, I have enough good things stored to last for many years. Rest, eat, drink and enjoy life!”
But God said to him, “foolish man! Tonight your life will be taken from you. So who will get those things you have prepared for yourself?”
This is how it will be for those who store up things for themselves and are not rich towards God.
This is the word of the lord – (response thanks be to god)

Poem – Becky

Poem by Becky and Jess

Money is notes and pounds.
Silver, gold, green and bronze.
Spend it wisely, spend it quick
Which is the best way, why don’t you pick.

With money you can buy lots of things
But you can’t buy love and happiness
Why can’t we go back to the old days
When trading was the right way.

If you have spare
Give some too the poor
They need it a whole lot more
But don’t rob a bank it’s against the law
Your greed is something you need to control
Because people might not be there when you fall

Trust is something you have to earn you cannot buy it
If you break it then what to do
God is at hand to help you
Love is found happiness is found
And money is earned the same as trust
So don’t waste it, appreciate it.

Hymn 275 Seek ye first the kingdom of God
Seek ye first the kingdom of god and his righteousness
And all these things shall be added unto you
Allelu alleluia
Alleluia alleluia
Alleluia alleluia
Allelu alleluia

You shall not live by bread alone
but by every word
That proceeds from the mouth of god
Allelu alleluia
Alleluia alleluia
Alleluia alleluia
Allelu alleluia

Ask and it shall be given unto you
Seek and ye shall find
Knock and it shall be opened unto you
Allelu alleluia
Alleluia alleluia
Alleluia alleluia
Allelu alleluia

Poem – Beth and Claudia – Beef Frankland
Must have.
Must get.
Don’t need.
Do want.
Feeling down,
go and spend.
Feeling good,
spend again.
Self worth found,
on a label.
What I own
is who I am
Try to fill that
empty feeling.
with each new thing
to numb the pain.
But like an addict,
the effect just lessens.
An increased need
to spend again.
Don’t have cash?
I use credit.
Debt is rising.
causing stress.
But you say:
“Do not worry about tomorrow.”
Who knows by then
you may be dead.
Must have.
Must get.
Don’t need.
Do want.
Materialism.
The new religion.
Devoted followers,
worship and adore.

Song – all YOOF
Money
Adverts, adverts on TV
Everyone wants my money from me
Is it necessity or is it greed
Do you just want it or is it a need
Chorus:
Money’s not the key to happiness
Money always drags you down, down down
Movie stars and their fancy cars
Money always drags you down.

Make your own decisions
That’s what you have to do
Remember in the end
It will reflect on you.
Chorus:
Money’s not the key to happiness
Money always drags you down, down down
Movie stars and their fancy cars
Money always drags you down.

Money is OK, it depends how you use it
Money is useful keep it or lose it
Spending, Spending makes you want more
A new TV or a kitchen floor
Chorus:
Money’s not the key to happiness
Money always drags you down, down down
Movie stars and their fancy cars
Money always drags you down.

What we need is stuff like
Water, food, shelter and light
So don’t be a sheep and follow the crowd
Money isn’t everything so shout out loud
Chorus:
Money not the key to happiness
Money always drags you down, down down
Movie stars and their fancy cars
Money always drags you down.

Bible Reading – Mikey – Tim 1 Chap 6 9-10

This is the reading taken from the first letter of St.Paul to Timothy, chapter 6, verses 9 and 10.

Those who want to become rich bring temptation to themselves and are caught in a trap. They want many foolish and harmful things that ruin and destroy people.
The love of money causes all kinds of evil. Some people have left the faith because they wanted to get more money, but they have caused themselves much sorrow.

This is the word of the lord (response – thanks be to god)

Poem – Laura
The world is insane.
No one seems to care.
Materialism has taken over.
It’s everywhere!
It’s all about whom has the best.
Why judge someone on their car?
Are you really a nobody,
If you aren’t a star?
The media forces things,
That shouldn’t matter at all.
Why do we need possessions,
Just to make us smile?
Women want perfect hair,
If they don’t they buy a wig.
If a man doesn’t provide millions,
Then he is labelled a pig.
We are too obsessed with jewellery.
We want to follow fashion.
If we know someone who’s rich,
We try to cash in.
It isn’t all about what you can accumulate.
Life isn’t a show.
What’s the point of all this useless stuff?

Prayers – Emma, Jess Lily and Becky
Dear God help us to remember
That happiness is experienced
Through caring thoughts and actions
Untouched by variables
of the material world.”

Dear Lord I am content making use of the possessions I have.”
“I feel happy living within my means.”
“I feel love for myself, family and friends.”
“I am happy doing the best I can with what I have.”

Each day brings new beginnings
Decisions I must make
I am the only one to choose
The road I will take

I can choose to take the road of life
That leads to great success
Or travel down the darkened road
That leads to great distress

Please open my eyes dear Lord
That I might clearly see
Help me stand for what is right
Bring out the best in me

Help me Lord to just say “no”
When temptation comes my way
That I might keep my body clean
And fit for life each day

When my teenage years are over
I know that I will see
That life is lived it’s very best
With you walking next to me

Hymn – 327 When God made the garden of creation
(collection to be taken here)

When God made the garden of creation
he filled it with his love
When God made the garden of creation
He saw that it was good
There’s room for you and room for me
And room for everyone
For God is a father who loves his children
And gives them a place in the sun
When God made the garden of creation
He filled it with his love

When God made the hamper of creation
he filled it with his love
When God made the hamper of creation
He saw that it was good
There’s food for you and food for me
And food for everyone
But often we’re greedy and waste gods bounty
So some don’t get any at all
When God made the hamper of creation
He filled it with his love

When God made the family of creation
he made it out of his love
When God made the family of creation
He saw that it was good
There’s love for you and love for me
And love for everyone
But sometimes we’re selfish, ignore our neighbours
And seek our own place in the sun
When God made the family of creation
He made it out of his love

When God made the garden of creation
he filled it with his love
When God made the garden of creation
He saw that it was good
There’s room for you and room for me
And room for everyone
For God is a father who loves his children
And gives them a place in the sun
When God made the garden of creation
He filled it with his love
