Our Events from 2019
Easter 2019
Eastertide Feast, 28th April 2019
We had a fabulous Eastertide Feast in the Parish Hall after the 10am service. the tables were well-laden with food down the centre; different breads, cheeses, quiches, pork pies, crisps, potato salad and pickles, with the desserts on a separate table; pavlovas, chocolate cakes, Simnel cake and Polish cake alongside a chocolate fountain with marshmallows and various fruits to cover with the chocolate. Everyone had a fabulous time and a small raffle helped us raise a little more. Although it was a social event, not a fundraising one, we raised over £185 for church funds.
Beetle Drive, May 2019
We had a fun evening at our Annual Beetle Drive once again. Although numbers were lower this year as it clashed with another event in the town, it was still a lot of laughs and a great opportunity to socialise. We all enjoyed the supper and the small raffle raised an additional £40 for our funds.
Marketplace stall, 4th May 2019
We had a very cold, wet and windy morning in the Marketplace selling home-made cakes, biscuits and preserves. Our book and jigsaws stall had to be covered against the elements, but we still managed to sell a few. We are selling books and jigsaws at the Monday morning Coffee Mornings.
Parish trip to Walsingham, June 2019
New Noticeboards in the porch
Much of the glorious woodcarving in church was done by Alfred Robert Wilson, and when his daughter Kathleen died in 2018, she left the church a legacy to do something in church to glorify his memory. We decided that some lovely new, oak noticeboards in the porch would be perfect, and these were fitted in March and blessed during the Mothering Sunday service on March 31st.
Strawberry Soiree
We had intended to hold a Strawberry Soiree in the Vicarage garden on 24th June. Unfortunately, heavy overnight rain made that impossible as the garden was too wet, so we held it in church instead. Everyone had a lovely time anyway and enjoyed lots of fresh strawberries from Sinnington and glasses of Pimms!
Summer Fair, July 27th 2019
The weather unfortunately meant that the Fair had to be indoors, which was a disappointment, but it was still a great success, and everyone had a good time. We raised a fabulous £845 after expenses. A HUGE thanks to everyone who came and made is such a lively afternoon, especially to The Sweet Martinis who played and sang throughout the afternoon, and to The Pet Shop who organised and ran the dog show in spite of the drizzle.
Pickering 'War Weekend'
Once again we provided refreshments for the 'army' of visitors who descended on the town for this very popular 40's weekend. We were in the church on the Saturday as usual, serving a variety of scones, cakes and cups of tea or coffee. A huge thank you to all the people who volunteered to help set up, bake the cakes and scones and to everyone who volunteered to help on the day. A very special thank you to a gentleman called Keith who arrived for refreshments and then spent a few hours entertaining everyone on the piano!
Harvest Lunch
We had a lovely Harvest lunch after the Harvest Service on 29th September in the Parish Hall. We enjoyed cottage pie with buttery cabbage, followed by apple and blackberry crumble and custard for pudding, then coffee of tea and truffles. We had a raffle too, and the whole evening raised £260 which was brilliant. Everyone had a lovely time and the atmosphere was fantastic.
Michelangelo Exhibition, Trip to Hull, 26th Oct. 2019
A group of us went through to Hull Minster on a very rainy day in October, to see the Michelangelo 'A Different View' Exhibition. It was a very worthwhile trip, and the exhibition is on until 18th November if the photographs below inspire you to visit!
Christmas Tree
We brought the Christmas Tree into church on Saturday 23rd November. Not such a huge one as previous years', but a really beautiful one! A huge thanks to the folk who helped to strongarm it into place, and to those who provided the much-needed refreshments.
Christmas Fair, Saturday 7th December
We had a wonderful afternoon at the Christmas Fair, where we raised over £1000! It was really well attended and there was a lovely, happy atmosphere. Santa came and spent time with the children and we were entertained by the handbell ringing group, LLs Bells and the singing group The Sweet Martinis. We had a fabulous raffle, a Jewellery stall, cake stall, Splat the Rat, a Wheel of chocolate fortune, Throw snowballs down the chimney, Bottle Tombolas, General Tombola, Book stall, Guess the weight of the giant Christmas pudding, What the name of St George's Dragon?, Find a pair of Christmas socks, Find the golden ticket in a Cracker, Handicrafts stall, and great refreshments.
Huge thanks to everyone who came and supported us.
