The aim of the Men's Society is to provide Christian Fellowship following a programme which is social, instructive, challenging and worshipful. An interesting programme includes various speakers from all walks of life, including local businesses and national and local charities, and visits to local attractions, including historic and archaeological sites. For more information about joining the Men's Society or upcoming events, contact Brian Stockley on 01751 471479.
On the 15th April a small band of our members braved a cold and bitter afternoon to visit the Roman Camps at Cawthorne, we were led by our very own, and Roman Britain expert the Rev. David Clark. Although many of us had visited the site many times over the years, it was fascinating to find out what we had been walking over.
The site dates back to AD51 and was a temporary camp site for Soldiers and Cavalry who were making their way Northwards from Norfolk to Northumberland and Hadrians Wall.
It was estimated the site was abandoned approximately AD71.
